Mission
Polymer Women Empowerment and Research conference (PoWER) will foster community, share cutting-edge scientific results, highlight women’s contributions and voices, and address issues pertinent to women and gender minorities in polymer science. This 1.5-day conference will provide a diverse, inclusive, and innovative environment where participants at all career stages can feel a sense of belonging, develop professional networks, and learn about opportunities.
Vision
By holding a conference dedicated to women and gender minorities in polymer science, we will empower and support women to enter this field and become leaders. Barriers to success in polymer science as a woman or gender minority will be identified and dismantled, increasing recruitment and retention in our field. The professional connections established at PoWER will grow into a supportive community, enriching participants after the conclusion of the event itself.
Values
True discovery is aided by the consideration of multiple perspectives that can only be achieved through a diverse group of scientists. We will emphasize diversity along multiple axes, not just gender (career stage, race, ethnicity, place of work, sexual orientation, ability, etc.). We welcome all individuals, regardless of identity, to attend this conference aimed to highlight women and gender minorities’ voices and their polymer science. We vow to advocate for ourselves and the women who came before us to cultivate a better experience for the women who come later.
Conduct Policy
We expect our speakers, attendees, and staff to uphold a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. Everyone at the conference will treat each other with kindness and respect. To uphold the professional and educational purposes of this meeting, we will respect the rights, privacy, safety, and dignity of all persons. Plagiarism or unauthorized recording will not be tolerated and should be reported to a PoWER organizer. Harassing speech and/or behavior will result in expulsion from the current and future PoWER conferences.
